My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

Arthur's latest was published on October 1st. Click here to read "Tune up your computer to make it run like new again"

My latest column was published September 30th. Click here to read "Bookstore as day care? Read on."

Showtime!

"Honk! Jr" is the musical story of The Ugly Duckling, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry cat, Ugly must find his way home. Along his journey he not only discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, but also finds love and acceptance in all its forms.

North Hall High School's Hollow Horse Players present "Honk! Jr" on Thursday and Friday, October 6 and 7 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, October 8 at 2 pm. Tickets are $5.00. Performances are in the school theatre.

It's a wonderful show for little kids, a great way to introduce them to live theatre. This is a show you won't want to miss!

Gainesville High School Theatre Department presents "Working" on October 4-6 at 7:30 p.m. tickets are $5.00.

Based on sociologist Studs Turkel's best-selling book of interviews with American workers, Working explores the American workday from the Monday morning blues to a working person's pride in having "something to point to." Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) and Nina Faso (Godspell) adapted Working into a stage play, mostly using the original words of some uncommon common men and women.

GHS produced this play in 2005 and I went to see it the night it opened. I ended up going back for every subsequent performance. It's a remarkable play performed by talented young people. Oh, and by the way, our Cheryl Hughes' son Shaun is playing guitar in the orchestra...yet another reason to see it!

N2N Family News

This week, the Times here in Gainesville ran a feature about religion in the schools. They asked our Rachel to write a commentary on the topic and it was published on October 2nd. Click here to read it.

When N2N's Pennie Phillips' husband, Billy, was seriously injured in a workplace accident, many of our customers lent a hand by donating to our in-store bake sale. The proceeds assisted Pennie with the expenses associated with staying with Billy while he recuperated in the hospital in Alpharetta. Pennie sends this message to all of you:

"Thank all of you for prayers and support during this time for Billy and me. Without your prayers I know we would not be as far along as we are. Each day gets a little better. It will be a long road so please keep us in your prayers.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you,

Pennie and Billy"

Whatcha Eatin'?
