Dahlonega's Historic Holly Theatre's Summer Spectacular Show

Meredith Willson's
THE MUSIC MAN

This Tony award-winning musical played on Broadway for 1,375 performances and is the delightful story of Harold Hill, a footloose con man who sets out to take advantage of the citizens of a small, turn-of-the-century Iowa town, promising to transform the children into a world-class brass band---for a price, with old accomplice Marcellus Washburn helping him with the scam. Hill figures he's home free until he is instead captivated and morally transformed by the townsfolk. Along the way he falls in love with the town's lovely librarian, Marian Paroo and inspires all with the joy of music. The show opens July 10th.

Tickets are available for purchase at WWW.HOLLYTHEATER.COM

or by contacting the Holly Theater Box Office at 706-864-3759.

Rachel Glazer and Dr. Janet Moss

Last week, our Rachel, a sophomore at North Hall High school, attended Piedmont College's First Annual Debate Camp. She learned about

Congratulations to Rachel and many thanks to the Gainesville Evening Optimist Club for granting her a scholarship to attend the camp.

And this just in! Rachel has been nominated for a Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre Award in the Youth Award category for her work in the Holly Theatre's production of "Into the Woods." She was Lucinda, one of Cinderella's oh-so-evil stepsisters.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the The Earl Smith Strand Theatre in Marietta on September 27th. Mazel tov, Rach!

Deal of the Week

One of the best grocery deals this week is the buy-one-get-one-free special at Publix for 3 lb. boxes of Velveeta Cheese. That means you pay only $2.70 per box. The special runs through Wednesday. Click
here to find cheese dip recipes, perfect for your Independence Day celebrations.

Here's a great main dish featuring Velveeta:

Tex-Mex Chicken Spaghetti Casserole

Ingredients:
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cooked and cut into bite sized pieces
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can Rotel tomatoes- use the hot if you like it spicy
1 can (8 ounce) tomato sauce
1 large onion diced
1 large green bell pepper diced
2 tbsp. butter
1 pound Velveeta cheese sliced
1 package spaghetti (small box)

Instructions:
Melt the butter in a large, deep skillet and saute the onion and pepper until translucent. Add the soup, tomatoes, tomato sauce, and sliced Velveeta cheese to the onion and peppers and heat and stir until everything is warm and then set the mixture aside. Break the spaghetti into 3 or 4 inch pieces and cook according to package directions. While the spaghetti is cooking, add chicken to the soup and cheese mixture in the skillet, stirring to mix well. Strain the spaghetti and rinse it with cool water and then add it to the chicken mixture, stirring to mix well. Turn all into a large baking dish, cover with foil and bake at 300 degrees for one hour. This is a heavy dish, so a light side dish such as a vegetable or salad would be good with this, but really it's a meal by itself.

And then of course there's Velveeta fudge...

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Don't need another blender? Include
Heifer International in your wedding registry. HI is a nonprofit charitable organization based in Little Rock, Arkansas, dedicated to relieving global hunger and poverty. It provides gifts of livestock and plants, as well as education in sustainable agriculture, to financially-disadvantaged families around the world.

HI gives gifts of regionally appropriate livestock, as well as tree seedlings. As of 2006, these animals and plants have been distributed in more than 125 countries around the globe. Each gift perpetuates HI's interest in agroecology and sustainability.
Heifer International works to ensure that the gift of each animal will eventually help an entire community to become self-sustaining. Animals such as goats, water buffalo and camels are "seven M" animals: they provide meat, milk, muscle, manure, money, materials and motivation. Heifer International provides a breeding animal along with the gift animal so that it can produce offspring. Participating families are required to "pass on the gift"- they must give at least one of the female offspring to a neighbor who has undergone Heifer's training. In time, that neighbor will pass along one of the offspring of its animal, and so on.

Currently, HI is embarking on a campaign called Hope for the Future, which is dedicated to raising $800 million by 2010 to lift five million families worldwide to self-reliance. Traditionally Heifer raises funds from chapters organized around schools, colleges and churches. It also offers a wedding registry in which engaged couples can register for gifts to Heifer instead of traditional wedding presents.

Beats the heck out of yet another blender.

Talk about Bargains!

Last Friday, Rachel and I stopped by Kelly and Mike Withrow's Just $2.00 store on Shallowford Rd. in front of Wal-Mart.

I thought I'd died and gone to bargain shopping heaven! The place was packed with "As seen on TV" items- PedEggs, Green Bags, energy saving light bulbs, Song En (an abrasive pad for legs that you use instead of shaving- Rachel swears by it) and lots more. All for $2.00! Kelly says they have plenty in stock, but to be safe, be sure to stop by soon- it's going fast!

Morning, everybody!

What a wonderful week it's been! Finally, it feels like summer. Stop in to get great deals of shorts, sun dresses, T's, tanks... your entire vacation wardrobe!

Let's put it to a vote...

Folks, I'm not quite sure what to do about July's First Friday Sale (for you newcomers, on the first Friday of each month we have a big storewide half price sale.)

Only thing is, the first Friday in July is the 3rd. I'm afraid a lot of you will be out of town for the 4th or otherwise busy with holiday preparations. What do you think? Should we move the sale to either June 26 or July 10? Keep it on the 3rd? Let me know which you'd prefer- email me at
next2new@aol.com

Majority rules and I'll let you know the results in next week's newsletter.

There's CA$H in your closet!

Let's do the Wild Card Sale again. Pick a card to find out where your 30% off discount is. It could be pants and shorts, shoes and bags, infant wear, dresses and sets, even storewide...who knows? And we believe in do-overs. If you don't like your first card, feel free to draw again!

June 14: World Blood Donor Day

June 14 was World Blood Donor Day. Why does blood donation need a day? Because it’s one of the simplest gifts of life and too few people give it. Why June 14? Because June 14th was the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the man who discovered the ABO blood system that is used to categorize the type of blood we have. Click here to learn more.

Bring in documentation that you donated blood during the week of June 14 - 21 and get 50% off that day's ENTIRE purchase. Just our way of saying thanks for giving the gift of life!

Let's ALL go!

Back again this summer is Movies on the Green, sponsored by the Arts Council. Thursday, June 18th you can see HOTEL FOR DOGS at the Smithgall Arts Center (the Depot) at 331 Spring St.

Gates open at 7:30 PM, Movie starts at approximately 8:45 PM (or as soon as it's dark.) This season will feature family oriented films shown on a giant inflatable screen on the lawn. The movies are FREE and will also feature fun activities (games and other kid friendly activities) prior to the start of the movie. Last year there were bouncy slides, strolling magicians and drawings for prizes. Food, candy, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase on site or you can bring your own.

Bring quilts or lawn chairs. We're gone for the past couple of years and it's been so much fun! Hope to see you there!

No more sandy seats!

If you're heading to the beach this summer, this is a good one to know! Remember how aggravating it is trying to get sand off of your legs and feet.. and hands and other parts?

It likes to cling to you and stay there, even after a hose-down. Little kids are always be the sandiest, and seem to spread it just about everywhere - especially all over the back seat of the car. There is a very clever remedy for this. Rinse well, and after you towel dry, sprinkle baby powder on and rub it in. Like magic, it removes all the leftover sand from your skin in a jiffy.

Pick UR Own!

I love blueberries but I don't always like the prices at the grocery store. Now's the time to get great deals on berries and other produce and have a fun family outing at the same time.

There are lots of pick your own farms nearby. This website provides local listings of pick your own (also called U-pick or PYO) farms in the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and other countries. There are
crop calendars for each local area to tell you what is available to pick throughout the year, local weather forecasts and really easy illustrated directions to show you how to make jam, jelly, salsa, pickles, spaghetti sauce, applesauce, apple butter and 150 other recipes with step by step step directions to can, freeze, dry or preserve the harvest.

Click
here to locate farms in the north Georgia area.

Clinic!

The Humane Society of Hall County will hold a Microchip Clinic & Rabies Clinic at
Tailwaggers Pet Boarding and Daycare at 2376 Murphy Blvd. in Gainesville on Saturday, June 27 from 8:30 AM to 12 Noon.

Rabies shots are $10.00. Microchipping (including registration) is also available for each pet for only $20.00. For the protection of all, every pet must be contained in a carrier or leashed. Puppies and kittens must be 3 months old for rabies shots.

For more information on other events, go to www.humanesocietyhallcounty.com or call 770-532-6617.
