Looking for Love

Here's this week's spotlight on a couple of the adorable pets available at the Hall County Animal Shelter on Barber Road.

This little girl would love to be your forever kitty. Click here to learn more about this sweet baby.

There are plenty of dogs available for adoption, too. Click here to find out about this adorable terrier mix.

Bring in your adoption form from any area shelter (within one week of the adoption) and get a $10.00 N2N store credit...just our way thanking you for saving a life!

CPR- It Works!

Not too long ago, Arthur's cousin, Jay, was stricken with a potentially deadly heart attack. Luckily, he was working out at the time and two of the people at the gym just happened to be a nurse and a paramedic. Also, the gym had a defibrillator. Their quick work certainly saved Jay's life.

Click here to see the local news report of Jay's amazing survival.

Then click here for a quick tutorial on CPR... you never know when you might need to use it!

Don't Be Chicken!

This event is two weeks away, but it might take you two weeks to get ready. Friday, July 9th is Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A. Here's the scoop:

It's become a holiday for Chick-fil-A fans. Just come to any Chick-fil-A on July 9th fully dressed as a cow (you know, to prove that you are no chicken) and they'll give you a FREE Chick-fil-A
meal! And bring the kids, because calves get free meals too!

For more information,
click here for a Cow Appreciation FAQ. If you're not feeling too creative, Chick-fil-A makes it easy for you by providing a "Costume Starter Kit" here.

Sugar High: 20 Worst Beverages in America

Sugary drinks are the bane of our diets, and even some “health drinks” and “energy drinks” are full of sweet, empty calories. Men’s Health came up with a jaw-dropping list of the 20 worst beverages in America right now, and created some pretty shocking photos to show just how much sugar you’re sipping. Even if you have a sweet tooth, we don’t know many people would like to get their daily sugar allowance through a straw. Click here to check out the astonishing list.

Super Summer Recipes

This week's recipes come from two of our N2N friends...

First there's Becky Portwood's Vidalia Onion Tart. Click here to see the recipe from Southern Living. The picture is from Becky. Thanks so much!

Want dessert but don't want to heat up the house by using the oven?
Try Kitty Benson's Filled Angel Food Cake.

Slice one purchased Angel Food cake lengthwise. Prepare one recipe of Jell-O pudding (any flavor.) Spread half of the pudding on the bottom layer of cake and then replace the top layer. Save the rest of the pudding for snacking. Frost the cake with Cool Whip and decorate with fruit and/or nuts. It's that easy! You can prepare the recipe using all sugar-free ingredients, too.

Wise Words

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth."
Billy - age 4

Remember to bring in your plastic grocery bags to recycle and register to win a $25.00 store credit. May's winner was Cindy Furlow. Congratulations, Cindy!

Click here to see a short video on why it's important for us all to decrease our use of plastics.

Get a $5.00 store credit any time you bring us a new shopper. It's easy. Just bring in your friends who've never tried N2N shopping. When they check out at the register, we'll give YOU a $5.00 credit on the spot.

Let's work to get the word out: friends don't let friends shop retail!

...and don't forget Senior Discount Day- each Monday, everyone 55 and over gets 30% off their cash purchases.

N2N has resumed cash buying! Here's how it works: for cash, we're purchasing only name brand, mall brand and better fashions. We're only taking in-season pieces (spring/summer). They must be in perfect condition and have been bought new less than 3 years ago.

Just give me a call at the shop (770-534-9070) or on my cell (770-539-1911) I'll need to set up an appointment since I'm currently the only one who is doing the cash buying. I'm giving preference to areas of the shop that have the quickest turn-over in inventory- plus sizes, maternity, men's casual wear, shoes and toddler sizes.

Of course, we're still continuing the store credit buying and the amount we pay is about 30% more than the cash.

Cash or store credit- either way, we all win!

Computer Problems?

Arthur can fix your computer, rid it of viruses and malware or tune it up for you. He'll make it run faster than it did when you first bought it. You can drop it off at N2N or he can do a house call. He writes a column on computer care for The Times every other Saturday. You can visit his blog at http://computerhousecalls.blogspot.com/ to see an archive of columns, searchable by keywords.

Most times he will have your computer back to you within two days and his rates include a free follow-up phone consultation.

Call Computer House Calls at 770-540-5100 or email him at arthur@glazerthepctech.com. Your computer will thank you.

That's it for now. Remember-email goes both ways...

Looking for Love

Here's this week's spotlight on a couple of the adorable pets available at the Hall County Animal Shelter on Barber Road. Between 5,000 and 6,000 animals have arrived at the shelter so far this year. Kitten season is in full session, so these numbers will skyrocket during June.

This little lady is a good example of the hundreds being born this year. Click here to learn more about this sweet kitty.

There are plenty of dogs available for adoption, too. Click here to find out about this handsome guy.

Please, please, please...before you buy from a breeder or pet shop, consider the alternative of a shelter. As Betty Burden, a shelter pet's best friend, reminds us, "Until there are none, adopt one! "

Bring in your adoption form from any area shelter (within one week of the adoption) and get a $10.00 N2N store credit...just our way thanking you for saving a life!

And don't forget, Friday (June 25) is Take Your Dog To Work Day. It's also Take Your Dog To N2N Day...stop by on Friday with your pooch and take 20% off your cash purchase!

Council of Dads

When author Bruce Feiler was diagnosed with cancer, he reached out to six friends, forming the Council of Dads to be present in the lives of his twin daughters in case he was no longer there. He then asked each friend for one piece of advice he would convey to the girls. Click here to read those inspiring life lessons.

Grilled Corn Dip

What a delicious change from French Onion Dip!

• 6 medium ears sweet corn, husks removed
• 1 large onion, chopped
• 1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 cup mayonnaise
• 1/2 cup sour cream
• 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
• 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack cheese
• 1 can (2-1/4 ounces) sliced ripe olives, drained
• 2 tablespoons sliced green onions
• Tortilla chips

Directions
1. Grill corn, covered, over medium heat for 10-12 minutes or until tender, turning occasionally.

2. Cut corn from cobs. In a large skillet, saute the onion and jalapeno in butter for 2-3 minutes or until almost tender. Add corn and garlic; saute 1-2 minutes longer or until vegetables are tender. Remove from the heat.

3. In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream and chili powder. Stir in cheese and corn mixture. Transfer to a greased 2-qt. baking dish.

4. Bake, uncovered, at 400° for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. Sprinkle with olives and green onions; serve with chips. Yield: 5 cups.

Note: When cutting hot peppers, disposable gloves are recommended. Avoid touching your face.
