She's legendary here at N2N.
She came to visit recently  and brought lots and lots of plus size (mostly 2X and 3X and some XL and 1X) fall and winter fashions- sweaters, quilted vests, jackets, scarves along with size 9 and 9.5 shoes and jewelry. Come by and take a look- the racks are packed!

My latest column was published on September 7th. Click here to read "Laboring through a day of made in the USA." It's the story of how I spent Labor Day attempting to consume, purchase and wear only items that were grown or made in the USA. As you'll see, it's easier said than done.

As a result, I've decided to make this a Labor Day tradition.

Harvest Balloon Festival
Mark your calendar and plan on going out to Sterling on the Lake in Flowery Branch for the Harvest Balloon Festival on Saturday, Oct. 20th. Have an afternoon of fun with balloon rides, competition racing, tethered balloon rides and a balloon glow. On the ground there will be just as much excitement with pumpkin carving and painting, hay rides, face painting, kiddie games, concerts and raffles.
Be sure you bring your appetite because there will be food vendors, carnival sweets and a bake sale.

Refresher Course

You name it, we'd like to have it. Clean out everybody's closet and come on over. We especially need children's winter clothes. Also, shoes are a hot seller and I don't need to tell you...we can never have too many shoes. Here's a refresher on our buying program:

Do the first cut for us. Don't bring anything with problems...spots, stains, smelly, outdated...you know the drill.

We do our store credit buying Monday thru Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm. You don't need an appointment but our buying is on a first come, first served basis so you may have to wait a few minutes (Hint: we have TWO buyers here on Monday and Thursday so if you're pressed for time, those days are your best bet.) As a rule, we don't buy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There's often only one employee in the shop and it's impossible to give our customers the attention they deserve if we're up front buying. Thanks for understanding.

We want to buy your clothes. If your schedule prevents you from coming in during normal buying hours, just give me a call (my cell is 770-539-1911) and we'll work out a time.

Are you a gardener? Then you'll want to click here for moneysaving tips on fall gardening and preparing the patch for winter.

Technology bargains!

Recently, a friend came across a Dell laptop (one of the really cool ones with the lime green lid) at a thrift store for $30.00. When she plugged it in, all she got was the feared "blue screen of death" so I guess we know why someone donated it. Being the optimistic type, she bought it anyway and brought it to Arthur. In no time he had it running like new.
Just keep this in mind when you run across technology at thrift stores and yard sales. Of course, not every computer can be revived, but a surprising majority of them can. When you come across an uber-bargain like this, give Arthur a call at 770-540-5100 and see what he thinks.
All I can say is I wish I'd been the one to spot that green Dell!

 Whatcha eatin'?

This is a great vegetarian version of a family favorite- zucchini "crab" cakes with remoulade sauce. I served it with oven fried potatoes. The Old Bay seasoning is the secret- the patties smelled and tasted just like crab cakes and the remoulade sauce was delicious- it makes plenty so plan on serving grilled talapia later on in the week!

Here's the crab...er, zucchini...cake recipe.

and here's the one for the remoulade sauce.

One of my favorite cleaning products is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It works minor miracles on dingy stair rails and painted doors, makes sinks and stoves sparkle...but, I had to wonder, how? What was it made of? How does it work? I bet you've wondered, too. Well, wonder no more. Click here for the answer.

With peaches at their peak, we just had to post a peach recipe. This is an interesting fusion of peach cobbler and bread pudding-
a nice switch from the usual.

Baked Peach Pudding

Ingredients:

2 cups milk
2 cups breadcrumbs
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
2 medium eggs, beaten
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch salt
3 cups thinly sliced fresh peaches (about 1 to 2 pounds)
Ice cream, for serving

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a casserole dish.

2. Place milk in a small pot over medium heat; bring to a gentle boil and remove from heat. Place breadcrumbs in a large bowl; add hot milk to bowl. Add butter and beat with an electric mixer until well combined.

3. Add sugar, eggs, and cinnamon; beat well. Fold peaches into mixture.

4. Transfer mixture to prepared casserole pan; bake 60 minutes, remove, and cool 15 minutes.

5. Serve with ice cream.
