Next to Newsletter- Monday March 15, 2010

As I was leaving work Saturday, there was the most beautiful rainbow. It appears the pot o' gold is located right behind Johnny's BBQ.

This week, with Easter right around the corner, we'll do a little variation on the Wild Card theme. It's the Surprise Egg Sale. When you check out, pick an egg- you'll receive a discount that could be 10, 20 or 30 percent off or even your entire purchase for FREE!

...and don't forget Senior Discount Day- each Monday, everyone 55 and over gets 30% off their cash purchases.

Current Columns

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Gainesville Times. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

His latest was published on March 6. Click here to read Arthur's piece on printers and ink.

My March 5 column is about Family TIES Gainesville's parenting programs and it's upcoming fundraising fun run. Click here to go to it.

Bubble, Bubble...

With spring right around the corner, it's time to get ready for all those fun outdoor activities. When our girls were little (and even now, I suspect) they loved blowing bubbles. You can make your own solution for a fraction of the cost of those little individual bubble bottles. Click here to find great bubble solution directions. And if you want to turn it into a learning experience, click here to learn the science behind bubbles.

Wednesday is Movie Night

Here's a special bargain for St. Patrick's Day: Visit the Redbox Facebook page for a code for a free one-night movie rental Wednesday, March 17 at your local Redbox and it expires on Wednesday, March 17 at 11:59pm CT. Write your code on your calendar so you remember to use it next Wednesday! Locally, there's a Redbox inside Ingles on Thompson Bridge Rd. and outside Walgreen's on Enota.

Learn From My Fail

What's the best way to learn? Why, from somebody's else's mistakes, of course! That's the premise of Learn From My Fail. For example: "Do not open a pressure cooker without thoroughly cooling it off first. It takes a long time to clean exploded potatoes off the ceiling, cupboards, walls, and your hair." and "Wait a few minutes after the popcorn comes out of the microwave before putting the unpopped kernels in your mouth. Just because they haven’t popped yet doesn’t mean they won’t…" See what I mean? Click here for more.

Irish Cream Brownie Dessert

For a fitting ending to a St. Patrick´s Day celebration, serve fudgy brownies with a creamy liqueur-scented topping.

1 package brownie mix and required ingredients

Topping:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tbsp. Irish cream liqueur
1 cup frozen whipped topping, thawed
2 tbsp chocolate chips, chopped

First, prepare a package of brownie mix according to package directions except substitute 2 tbsp. of the liquid with 2 tbsp. Irish cream liqueur. Bake according to directions and cool for at least 30 minutes.

Mix powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon liqueur in small bowl. Fold in whipped topping. Spread evenly over cooled brownies. Sprinkle with chopped chocolate.
