Next to Newsletter - Monday, March 21, 2011

Good morning, everybody! The seasons seem to have leapfrogged straight from winter to summer. Here at N2N we're in high cotton- cotton tops, shorts, sun dresses, capris. There's everything you need for this wonderful warm weather.

What's on Sale?

Monday-Tuesday: 30% OFF infantwear 0-24 months
Wednesday-Thursday: 30% OFF children's clothes 7-20
Saturday-Sunday: 30% OFF Ladies' Dresses and Sets

Cleaning out closets? Here's the 411 on our buying program:

Do the first cut for us. Don't bring anything with problems...spots, stains, smelly, outdated...you know the drill.

We do our store credit buying Monday thru Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm. You don't need an appointment but our buying is on a first come, first served basis so you may have to wait a few minutes (Hint: we have TWO buyers here on Monday and Wednesday so if you're pressed for time, those days are your best bet)

As a rule, we don't buy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There's often only one employee in the shop and it's impossible to give our customers the attention they deserve if we're up front buying. Thanks for understanding.

We want to buy your clothes. If your schedule prevents you from coming in during normal buying hours, just give me a call (my cell # is 770-539-1911) and we'll work out a time.

New Columns!

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

Arthur's latest was published on March 20th. Click here to read "Destroy data on old PC or it could come back to bite you"

My column, published March 19th, is "Spring launches Year of the Snake." Click here.

And here's Sparky with his latest catch. Rachel snapped the picture... I was too busy screaming.

Brenau University's Golden Tigers Athletics is hosting a Fill the Bus event to benefit Good News at Noon. Bring canned goods to fill the bus from noon-2 p.m. March 24th at Honey Baked Ham, 1237 Thompson Bridge Road. You'll receive a free dessert or up to $10 off with canned food donation.

From 6-9 p.m. March 29th, take your canned goods to Texas Roadhouse at 895 Dawsonville Highway. You'll receive an appetizer with a canned food donation. For more details, call 770-538-4323 or 770-538-4687.

Thyroid Cancer Alert

Evelyn Asher of Asheville, N.C. sent us this timely tip:

"On Wednesday, Dr. Oz had a show on the fastest growing cancer in women, thyroid cancer. It was a very interesting program and he mentioned that the increase could possibly be related to the use of dental x-rays and mammograms. He demonstrated that on the apron the dentist puts on you for your dental x-rays there is a little flap that can be lifted up and wrapped around your neck. Many dentists don't bother to use it. Also, there is something called a "thyroid guard" for use during mammogram. "

"By coincidence, I had my yearly mammogram yesterday. I felt a little silly, but I asked about the guard and sure enough, the technician had one in a drawer. I asked why it wasn't routinely used. Answer: "I don't know. You have to ask for it." Well, if I hadn't seen the show, how would I have known to ask?"

Whatcha eatin' ?

Our daughter, Molly, sent this great recipe for individual chocolate cakes
microwaved in a mug. It's reported to be the most dangerous cake recipe in the world...

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg beaten
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (microwave safe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and stir. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.

Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.

Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes.

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed.

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

This can serve two if you want to feel slightly more virtuous.

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?

Because now we are all only five minutes away from chocolate cake, any time, day or night!

New message from Arthur:

Arthur says there are many forms of malware circulating the Internet. Some remain hidden in your computer, wreaking havoc with your system. Others appear as bogus utilities, warning you of non-existent problems. Often they will even give you a specific number of issues - something not possible if you hadn't run any scans with that utility. Others yet, are random pop-ups that you can't close. These all must be dealt with immediately. If they disappear on their own, they will return. They are not self-healing. If not eradicated, they will get worse, eventually blocking you from logging on to Windows, in many cases.

Call Arthur at 770-540-5100 or email him at arthur@glazerthepctech.com if you need to set up an appointment. He guarantees his work, has rapid response times and reasonable rates. You've read his columns in the Times, now let him go to work for you.

That's it for now. Remember-email goes both ways...

If you run across any exceptional bargains or impressive new products, let us know. We'll put the word out!

Have a remarkable week!
