Happy President's Day! It's more than just a day to get a great deal on a mattress. Click here to see each of the presidents from #1 to #44 share a bit of philosophy in less than 140 characters as a tweet.

Oh, and BTW- N2N will be open regular hours on President's Day.

What's on sale?

Folks have been clamoring for another Wild Card sale so that's what we'll do. Draw a card to see where your 30% discount is- tops? baby clothes? jeans? Hey, you won't know if you don't play!

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy. As you can tell, our minds were on the same topic when we wrote our most recent columns.

Arthur's Computer Care column "Looking back through Windows, and what lies ahead" was published on February 18th. Click here to read it.

My latest column ran on February 17th. Click here to read "Memories of a debate mom."

What's better than Kindle books? FREE Kindle books!

This from PC World: I love my Kindle. But you know what I hate? E-book prices. I know authors and publishers and everybody in between need to make a living, but there's simply no reason an e-book should cost almost the same as its hardcover or paperback counterpart.

Fortunately, Amazon frequently offers e-book freebies and discounts. And I've found no better way of browsing, searching, and tracking these wallet-friendly options than at eReaderIQ. The site maintains a huge, frequently updated database of free and discounted Kindle books.

For any of the freebie listings, clicking the little green book icon will launch a preview window, where you can read the actual book in Amazon's currently-in-beta Kindle Web viewer. The orange star icon shows user reviews, while the Info link gives you a book summary.

The site also offers a Price Drop Tracker: Just enter the ASIN or URL for any book, your e-mail address, and a notification threshold (the price at which you want to receive an alert) and eReaderIQ will notify you when the book hits that price.

If you love e-books but hate paying high prices, eReaderIQ is one site you'll definitely want to bookmark.

DIY Baby Wipes

1/2 cup light olive oil
4 cups water
1/2 cup gentle baby shampoo
1 roll paper towels cut in half
2 empty baby wipes containers, plastic coffee cans, or other containers that fit the halved paper towels

Mix olive oil, water, and baby shampoo.
Remove the cardboard center from both halves of paper towels.
Place halves of paper towels in 2 separate containers.
Pour 1/2 of mixture into each container, cover shake gently.
Pull sheet from the center of the paper towel roll and poke through the hole in top of baby wipe container; or cut hole in lid of plastic coffee can. Use just like regular store-bought wipes.

Reminder: National Pancake Day

Since beginning its National Pancake Day celebration in 2006, IHOP has raised nearly $8 million to support charities in the communities in which it operates. On February 28, 2012, guests from around the country are invited to celebrate National Pancake Day at IHOP and enjoy a free short stack of Buttermilk pancakes. In return for the free pancakes, guests are asked to consider leaving a donation for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other designated local charities. Want more info? Click here.

Whatcha Eatin'?

There is a mystique to Girl Scout Cookies. Partly because you can only buy them once a year but mostly because just about everyone I know has managed to devour an entire box of their favorite flavor in less than 10 minutes. On the off-chance that you have an extra box at home, here's a delicious adaptation of an elegant standard.

GIRL SCOUT COOKIE BAKED ALASKA

1 pkg. Trefoils
5 3 oz. chocolate covered vanilla ice cream bars
4 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar

Line 9×9 pan with foil. Place Trefoils on top. Place ice cream bars on top. Cover with another layer of cookies. Place in freezer. Preheat oven to 500°. In large bowl, beat egg whites, cream of tarter, vanilla and salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar (one tablespoon at a time) and beat on high with electric beater. Make sure meringue is very stiff. Remove pan from freezer and transfer everything (including foil) to a cookie sheet. Fold out side of foil and quickly cover with meringue all around. Bake for 2 to 3 min. or until meringue is light brown. Quickly return to freezer for no more than 5 hrs. Serves 6 to 8
