Morning, everybody!

What's on Sale?

This week, it's the Wild Card Sale! Choose a card and get 30% off a particular department (ladies' pants, menswear, infant's clothes- you get the idea.) There's even one card for 30% off your entire purchase!

There's CA$H in your closet!

Since the economy began it's precipitous nosedive, N2N has been doing all of it's buying in exchange for credit in the shop. That move has kept us solvent and in business while so many other shops have folded.

Now, we've decided to stick our toes back into the cash buying waters...
Here's how it works: for cash, we're purchasing only name brand, mall brand and better fashions. We're only taking in-season pieces (spring/summer). They must be in perfect condition and have been bought new less than 3 years ago.

Just give me a call at the shop (770-534-9070) or on my cell (770-539-1911) I'll need to set up an appointment since I'm currently the only one who is doing the cash buying. I'm giving preference to areas of the shop that have the quickest turn-over in inventory- plus sizes, maternity, men's casual wear, shoes and toddler sizes.

Of course, we're still continuing the store credit buying and the amount we pay is about 30% more than the cash.

Cash or store credit- either way, we all win!

New columns!

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

His latest was published on May 15. Click

My May 14th column is about graduation speeches. Click here to see it.

Dry Cleaning 101

A trip to the dry cleaner is just a quick errand for you. But the people behind the counter take a great amount of pride in the time they spend on your priciest garments. You could easily extend the life of your wardrobe if you heed their advice. The problem? Most customers are in too much of a hurry to ask for it. Click here to see what dry cleaners across the country would like to yell as you’re dashing out the door.

Wal-Mart Warning

Last week I told you about how Wal-Mart charged me twice for the same purchase. Their customer service people were less than helpful and I ended up having to file a fraud affidavit with my bank. Just thought I'd let you know, here at the end of week one, I haven't received my refund. I'll keep you posted... and remember, DON'T pay by check at Wal-Mart.

If something goes wrong, you get no help from them.

15 Foods You Should Never Buy Again

With the rising costs of groceries, we'd all love to save a few bucks at the checkout line. Now you can easily slash your bill with some clever shopping moves and DIY recipes. Manufacturers would like to make you think you're getting a good deal in exchange for convenience, but it's really just eating away at your food budget. Don't be fooled any longer.

Chocolate Chip Pecan Blondies

A perfect take-along to picnics and family reunions.

Nonstick vegetable oil spray
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Heat oven to 350° F. Spray an 8-inch square baking pan with the nonstick spray.

Line the pan with a piece of parchment, leaving an overhang on two sides; spray the parchment with the nonstick spray.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large bowl, whisk together the butter and sugars, then whisk in the eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour mixture, then the pecans and chocolate chips.

Spread the batter in the prepared pan and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes.

Cool completely in the pan. Holding both sides of the paper overhang, lift the cake out of the pan, transfer to a cutting board, and cut into 16 squares.
