One way to really save money is by making your own cleaning solutions.

With just a few simple ingredients, and you’re on your way to an effective and thrifty cleaner!

  • 2 Tbsp. Distilled White Vinegar
  • 1 Tsp. Borax
  • 1/8 cup Dawn Dishwashing Liquid
  • 1 cup Hot Water

Pour vinegar, borax and hot water into spray bottle. Then continue filling spray bottle with cool water. Add the Dawn liquid last.

This is a great cleaner, because the vinegar acts as a disinfectant.

It Makes Cents!

In last week's newsletter we told you about the Coupon Cents and More Workshop at the Hall County Library. Last Tuesday's meeting was so popular that it's becoming a regular event. Plans are still being made but as it stands now, there will be a monthly meeting at the library's Gainesville Branch (127 Main St. NW.) There's also the possibility of additional meetings offsite. Even if you're an experienced clipper you'll learn new ways to use coupons to reduce expenses.

The next meeting is Tuesday, October 5th at 6 PM. For more information, call 770-532-3311, ext. 114 or email mhunter@hallcountylibrary.org.

At last week's Coupon Cents and More Workshop this old dog learned a new trick: A good resource for book shoppers is http://www.isbn.nu/. You can search by author, title or even keywords. You get a list of sources for new and used copies of your book. I searched for an audiobook edition of "The 19th Wife" (retail price $49.95) and up popped a new, sealed set for $8.00!

Local Theatre

North Hall High School's Hollow Horse Players present A Thurber Carnival, a play from 1961 based on James Thurber's writings and drawings.

A Thurber Carnival, ultimately, is about Thurber and his sardonic, exasperated look at the world. All of these pieces are written with the utmost precision, and the icy dry comedy running underneath is bracing; this is, to use an oxymoron, a savagely understated piece of work. It's student directed by Courtney Shook. It's being presented at 7:30 PM at the NHHS theatre on Thursday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 25. Tickets are $5.00.

And while I was looking for an image to go with this, I came across this wonderful column about Thurber. I just had to share. Enjoy.

Gainesville High School Drama Department. presents All Shook Up at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday (Sept. 21-23) at The Ware House at Gainesville High School. tickets are $5.00.

Built around the songs made famous by Elvis Presley, All Shook Up tells the story of a small town girl with big dreams and the motorcycle- riding stud she falls for. Set in the 1950’s somewhere in the Midwest, Chad, a hip-swiveling, guitar-playing roustabout, is being released from prison. The warden doesn't appreciate a guy like Chad riding into town, playing his music and exciting the local women. But the women aren’t complaining!

All Shook Up will make you believe Elvis Presley is back in the building.

Shaun Hughes, son of N2N's Cheryl Hughes, is playing guitar for the production. See you Thursday night, Shaun!

...and as always, bring in the playbill from any local high school theatre production and take 20% off the price of any one item in the shop!
