Latest Columns

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

Arthur's latest was published on September 4. Click
here to read his thoughts on whether or not to purchase an extended warranty.

My September 3rd column is about the origins of Labor Day.

In honor of Labor Day, click here to see Pictures I Took At Work...a hilarious blog of workplace photos. Brought to you by the guy who created That is Priceless- putting a whole new spin on art's greatest masterpieces.

HARVEY

Gainesville High School's theatre department presents HARVEY Sept. 7th - 9th (Tues. - Thurs.)

Harvey is the story of Elwood P. Dowd, who makes friends with a spirit taking the form of a human-sized rabbit named Harvey that only he sees (and a few privileged others on occasion also.) After his sister tries to commit him to a mental institution, a comedy of errors ensues. Elwood and Harvey become the catalysts for a family mending its wounds and for romance blossoming in unexpected places.

You can email your ticket request to ghstheatre@bellsouth.net
The box office opens at 6:30 pm and tickets must be picked up no later than 7:10. Curtain is at 7:30 pm.

FREEBIES

Who say’s there’s not such thing as a free lunch (or storage, business advice, passport photos and ice cream)? Click here to get a list of amazing freebies!

Make a Donation for FREE!

This went out yesterday to all the N2N friends on Facebook: The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (their Facebook page still has their old name, the Humane Society of Hall County) is running a $5.00 Facebook Challenge. They're asking all of their Facebook friends (over 1500 at last count) to give $5.00 or more. There's a donate button on their FB page. The funds will go to buy new food and water bowls for their animals.

In four days, only $40.00 dollars has been donated. Well, that just won't do.

So...here's the deal. If you haven't already, please click "like" on the Facebook Page of
The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia. Then donate $5.00 (or more) using the PayPal button on the left of the page. Print out your PayPal confirmation (or you can just run a contribution by the shelter on Ridge Road and get a receipt.) Bring it with you the next time you come to N2N. We'll give you a $5.00 store credit--and maybe throw a little confetti.

That's like making a donation for FREE!

Please share this with all your Facebook friends...I'll keep you posted on how it's going.

Locked Out?

Now that Rachel's about to start driving, I turned to ace locksmith Bernie Hojdila for advice on the best ways to KEEP from getting locked out. Here are some of his suggestions:

Put a spare key in a baggie and duct tape it behind the tag.

Keep a spare key behind her student ID- it's on the lanyard around her neck and even if she locks her wallet in the car, she'll probably be wearing her ID.

Here's one I didn't know: For $3.00 per month, major cell phone carriers (AT&T, Verizon. etc.) will add roadside assistance to your account- that includes lock out service, gas, battery jumps and the like. Now that's a bargain!

And if you do find yourself locked out, give Bernie a call at 770-654-4427. He's an all-round nice guy and he has the best rates in town!

What's for Dinner?

This week, Ingles has all of their Ore-Ida frozen potato products on sale for buy 2, get 1 free.

That makes it the perfect time to try Ore-Ida's Cheesey Po-Tater-Tot Casserole. Click here to go to their recipe site.
I made it last night and omitted the stuffing and butter. It turned out great. I'm just sayin'...

Dream more than others think is practical, and
Expect more than others think is possible."

Weekly this 'n' that

N2N wants you to like us...on Facebook! Click
here to go to our fan page and click "like" to join up. We post great deals when we find them during the week and link to other great frugal sites. We have the Deal of the Day and Hot Flashes...you sure don't want to miss out on that!

We'll be doing more drawings for credits and other goodies on a regular basis, so be sure to get in on the action!

Remember to bring in your plastic grocery bags to recycle and register to win a $25.00 store credit. The latest winner was Paloma Ricci. Congratulations, Paloma!

Get a $5.00 store credit any time you bring us a new shopper. It's easy. Just bring in your friends who've never tried N2N shopping. When they check out at the register, we'll give YOU a $5.00 credit to use on your next visit.

Let's work to get the word out: friends don't let friends shop retail!

...and don't forget Senior Discount Day- each Monday, everyone 55 and over gets 30% off their cash purchases.

We're still collecting goodies to send to Eric Roper in Afghanistan. We've sent two boxes so far- the latest one went out last week. Thanks to Ellen and Debbie for all the wonderful snacks and grooming aids!

Please remember this brave young man when you're shopping and drop off some contributions for the next box!

Malware Alert!

Arthur says he has seen more types of malware (mal for bad, ware for software) lately than viruses. Be sure you have the proper protection in place. Don't assume just because you have an anti-virus utility installed, it will take care of malware. It may not.

Call Arthur for an appointment if you suspect a malware infection. Even better, call him before you get one and make sure it doesn't happen to you.

His rates are affordable and, really, can you afford to have an infected computer?

That's it for now. Remember-email goes both ways...

If you run across any exceptional bargains or impressive new products, let us know. We'll put the word out!
Have a remarkable week!
