Next to Newsletter- Monday, September 26, 2011

It's officially fall! Just in time, N2N has out the Halloween rack plus coat racks for both kids and adults. And that's not to mention all the corduroy pants (Abercrombie, Gap, Hollister!) and jeans, sweaters, long sleeve tops...look out, winter! We're ready for ya'!

What's on sale?

This week, we're making room for more winter baby clothes, so Infantwear 0-24 months is 30% OFF (unless already marked less.)

And there there's the...

As you probably know, for years now, the first Friday of every month has been the day for our storewide half price sale. In October, the first Friday isn't until the 7th...and that's entirely too long to wait.

So, as a special gift to our newsletter and Facebook friends, here's a little something extra: just copy, paste and print the coupon below and bring it in on Friday, September 30th, for an extra day of half price shopping (First Friday rules apply.)

New Columns!

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

Arthur's latest was published on September 17th. Click here to read "Free programs can be great, but sometimes at a price."

My latest column was published September 16th. Click here to read "A long journey’s happy ending for bus employees." It's the sequel to this column.

21 uses for salt (besides seasoning)

This from wisebread.com: Salt is one of Mother Nature’s greatest gifts. It gives our food flavor, our oceans healing properties, and our margaritas that kick we need after a long day.But salt has many more functions, from curing canker sores to repelling ants to de-icing driveways — and 18 more uses you can find by clicking right here.

Showtime!

"Honk! Jr" is the musical story of The Ugly Duckling, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry cat, Ugly must find his way home. Along his journey he not only discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, but also finds love and acceptance in all its forms.

North Hall High School's Hollow Horse Players present "Honk! Jr" on Thursday and Friday, October 6 and 7 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, October 8 at 2 pm. Tickets are $5.00. Performances are in the school theatre.

It's a wonderful show for little kids, a great way to introduce them to live theatre. This is a show you won't want to miss!

Feel Good Trivia!

We've mentioned this site before but it bears repeating. Run by the United Nations World Food Program, FreeRice is a trivia game that uses revenue from in-site ads to pay for 10 grains of rice for every answer you get right. Play a game and help people in need. Win-win!

There! I fixed it!

This blog collects user-submitted photos of people's lazy, albeit creative, solutions to their problems. The blog characterized these solutions as "redneck repairs" but I'm pretty sure a guy and his duct tape is a far more universal thing...

TypeRacer

Curious how fast you type in words per minute? Want to feel fiercely competitive while you find out? TypeRacer gives you famous movie and literary quotes to type in a race against not only the clock, but other users around the world. On your mark. Get set...

Whatcha Eatin'?

When our older daughter, Molly, went to work in Jackson in 2009, I made a blog of recipes that I thought she might find useful (click here to see Recipes for Molly in Mississippi.)

Now her sister, Rachel, will soon be going off to college and it's time to start a blog for her. I figure, initially at least, I'll put together recipes that can be fixed in a dorm room using only the most basic of appliances. Since she currently has a penchant for Middle Eastern foods, here's the first entry: Crock Pot Falafel.
