Next to Newsletter- Monday, January 16, 2012

Good Morning!

I hope you all had a great MLK Jr. Day!

Sorry this edition of the Next to Newsletter is a day late. I took advantage of the holiday and the resulting day off from school to spend some time with Rachel. She'll be off at college next year so we have to grab these opportunities when they come along.

In case you missed the Facebook shout-out: If one of your resolutions is to eat less and move more, then N2N is here to help! We have a great selection of active wear (sizes S- 2X) and if your workout involves swimming, we're the go-to place for suits...after all, the way chlorine eats up elastic, the last thing you want to do is swim laps in a $100 suit!

What's on sale?

Monday- Tuesday: 30% OFF Men's Shirts
Wednesday- Thursday: 30% OFF Ladies' Skirts
Friday-Saturday-Sunday: 30% OFF Infantwear 0-24 Months

NEW COLUMNS

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

Arthur's Computer Care column "Look for more QR Codes in the future" was published on January 7th. Click here to read it.

My latest column ran on January 6th. Click here to read "Overheard oddities and insults"

Got Milk?

During our day out on Monday, Rachel and I stopped at the Mountain Fresh Creamery at 6615 Cleveland Hwy. in Clermont. Oh. My. Gosh. Their natural, non-homogenized milk is the best I've ever tasted! They also carry butter and ice cream...wonderful ice cream. It's a fun place to visit- they're happy to let you sample!

Stop by N2N on the way there. We have some $1 off of a gallon of milk coupons...while supplies last.

Resolve to coupon?

Remember the Extreme Couponing workshop on Wednesday, February 1st at 10:30 a.m. at the downtown branch of the Hall County Library. Bring any of your extra coupons to swap.

Time Savers!

Want to do things faster? Check out this video on speed-drying manicures, making sorbet, peeling potatoes, tying shoes...all sorts of time savers. Thanks to Rachel for the link!

ZOO News

Looking for a great family day trip? North Georgia Zoo and Petting Farm is just minutes from Helen, Cabbage Patch and Dahlonega. They offer guided wildlife tours, a huge petting zoo area loaded with baby animals, camel encounters and more. They were featured on Dirty Jobs. Some of their famous animals are Mully the Water Buffalo who appeared on the Rachael Ray Show and the raven from Vampire Diaries. It's a small family run zoo that also features a petting farm.

They'll also bring the zoo to you. What a memorable birthday party or charity fundraiser!

On January 28th, there's going to be a dinner and auction to raise funds for a giraffe exhibit. It sounds like a lot of fun. Click here and scroll down to "January" for details.

Showtime!

North Hall High School's Hollow Horse Players present My Fair Lady at Brenau University's Pearce Auditorium on January 19-January 21 at 7:30 pm and January 22 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $8.

It's the story of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from Professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so that she may pass as a well born lady.

The musical's 1956 Broadway production was a hit, setting what was then the record for the longest run of any major musical theatre production in history. It was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version, and numerous revivals. It has been called "the perfect musical".

Whatcha Eatin'?

I've been on Weight Watchers for almost six months now (down 32 lbs!) and there are a few recipes that have been life savers (or at least DIET savers) for me. Roasted vegetables and oatmeal with apples are top of the list.

Here's a link to favorite recipes from Jennifer Hudson, WW's current spokesperson. If you haven't tried sweet potato fries, there's no time like the present. The noodle-less lasagne is a great new twist on a high carb favorite. And the mini chocolate chip cookies...need I say more?
