Next to Newsletter- Monday, January 9, 2012

Many, many thanks to all of you who showed up for our sales last week. It really started our New Year off with a bang!

Oh my gosh. We've taken in two HUGE batches of awesome fashions in the last few days.

First, if you're shopping for tweens and teens, size XS and Small, stopping by N2N needs to be a priority. There are over 100 pieces of name brands (Ralph Lauren, Hollister, BCBG and the like)- tops, pants and slacks, dresses and more. There are high end shoes (BCBG, Crocs, Carlos Santana, Jessica Simpson) in size 7 and 7.5.

Then, we've also gotten in gorgeous ladies' size XL and 16 tops, suits, jeans, slacks, sweaters and jackets. Brand names are Talbots, Ann Taylor, H & M and the like. Shoes and boots (also great name brands) are size 9, 9.5 and 10.
We're putting out both winter and spring fashions- now is a good time to fill in the gaps in your winter closet and get ready for warmer weather, too!

What's on sale?

Let's do the Wild Card Sale this week. You remember how it works: we have cards labeled with different 30% off departments- ladies' tops, infantwear, dresses, menswear...you get the idea. One card even wins you 30% off of your entire purchase.

NEW COLUMNS

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

Arthur's Computer Care column "Look for more QR Codes in the future" was published on January 7th. Click here to read it.

My latest column ran on January 6th. Click here to read "Overheard oddities and insults"

Fave Four

Evelyn Asher was the first to take up our challenge to list her top four Internet Favorites, sites she bookmarks and consults frequently.

Evelyn, formerly of Hall County, currently lives in Asheville. She's a writer, editor and a fervent supporter of worthy causes. She's one of those people who encourages others to try harder, strive longer and do more than they ever thought possible. Our girls call her Tante (Aunt) Ev.

Here are Tante Ev's Fave Four:

First, there's Dr. Weil.com. Ev says: "I had watched Dr. Weil on PBS years ago, loved his philosophy of not watching the news for better health, but didn’t appreciate fresh foods as much as I do today. Desktop delivery keeps my focus on health."

Next: In 2003, Patti Digh's stepfather was diagnosed with lung cancer and died just 37 days later. She woke up on day 38 and asked her a question that she has asked every morning since: "What would I be doing today if I only had 37 days to live?"

Her award-winning blog, 37days.com, emerged from the lessons she learned by asking that question. And her most recent book, LIFE IS A VERB: 37 Days to Wake Up, Be Mindful, and Live Intentionally, emerged from that writing. The 37 Days blog is one of Ev's Fave Four.

#3 and 4 (and 5): The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times and The Times here in Gainesville keep Ev connected with the world, internationally, nationally and locally.

Thanks for the links, Ev! OK, whos' next? Send your list of favorite links to next2new@aol.com

Resolve to coupon? Pt. 2

Thanks to Macaroni Kid Gainesville , I found out about the couponing workshop at the Hall County Library. I attended the first meeting last week and it was time very well spent.

The group meets in the computer lab so there's access to Internet sites.
I've been couponing for years, yet I picked up some great new tips. The sites we looked at were: weclipusave, Southern Savers, The Krazy Coupon Lady, Coupon Mom and coupons.com.

I'm particularly intrigued by weclipusave, where I can order specific coupons for pennies apiece rather than clipping them myself. That sounds like an idea worth investigating.
There were also lots of coupon inserts for us to clip from. Attendees are encourged to bring coupons they won't be using to swap.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, February 1st at 10:30 a.m. at the downtown branch of the Hall County Library.

Get good apps

Resources like CatchFree are indispensable at a time in which the creation and release of applications has become more and more democratized. While such a thing might not be bad from a competitive point of view, it is bad to consumers inasmuch they end up downloading/buying apps that are up to no good. That is what CatchFree is here to prevent. It is a community where people can recommend the best apps that they have tried, and tell the world at large why they are a cut above the rest.

The applications that are more widely-loved are all highlighted on the homepage and they are arranged by popularity. The ones that have received the best ratings all sit on top.

Whatcha Eatin'?

This is most certainly one of the most decadent desserts I've come across in a long time. The name says it all:

Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie n’ Oreo Fudge Brownie Bar

It's basically a layer of chocolate chip cookie, a layer of Double Stuffed Oreos and a layer of brownie. Then you top it with ice cream. Mmmmm boy howdy!

The recipe calls for making chocolate chip cookie dough from scratch but if you're pressed for time, just use a mix...or one of those tubes of cookie dough from the dairy case.

As luck would have it, Oreos are on sale this week for $1.98 at Ingles. Just be sure to use your Ingles Advantage Card.

“Help thy brother's boat across, and Lo! Thine own has reached the shore." --

Hindu proverb that appears on the gravestone of Berry Oakley, bassist for the Allman Brothers Band

(This week's quote comes from Candice Dyer, Facebook philosopher and author of Street Singers, Soul Shakers, and Rebels with a Cause:
Music from Macon
.)
