The Coke Lady's Coming!

Good news! Many of you know about the Coke Lady (so named because of her employer)- she brings wonderful plus size fashions and size 9-9.5-10 shoes. We haven't seen her since last Spring- she's been recovering from knee surgery. She'll be bringing us a car load of awesome next Saturday (September 5) after the shop closes. I'll have it ready for you to see by the time we open on Sunday at 1 PM. Plan on stopping in early- these things won't last long!

Latest Columns

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Gainesville Times.

His deal with computing and technology issues.

Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy. His most recent piece was published on August 15th.

My August 7th column is about planning for the inevitable. Click here to read it.

Great Advice

Regina Brett, a columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, is one of my favorites. Last week she wrote a column that gave me one of those "Gee, I wish I'd written that!" moments.

She says, quite rightly, that kids need a commencement address when they start high school, not just when they leave it. Click
here to read her wise, funny and right on target advice to the class of 2014.

Today is the first day...

The Best Life Program was created by exercise physiologist Bob Greene, best known as Oprah Winfrey’s personal trainer.

TheBestLife.com is an online resource offering meal plans for each day of the year, weekly grocery shopping lists, recipes, and helpful news and tips from a variety of weight loss experts.

Now you can try the Best Life Program FREE for 30 days, sponsored by LIBBY’S Pumpkin. You register and give credit card info. If you cancel within 30 days, you won't be charged. If you decide to continue, you'll be charged $9.95 for each subsequent month.

I'm gonna give it a try- let me know if you sign up and we'll all support each other! Click

Driver's Test

Now that Rachel's 15, she's getting ready to take her written driver's test. I wonder if any of the questions on the test are like this one?

Q.: You drive a car at a constant speed. On your left is a steep slope. On the right is a fire truck, driving with exactly the same speed next to you. In front of your car someone is riding on a huge pig, bigger than your car. Right behind you, you're followed by a combat helicopter three feet away from your bumper. The pig and the helicopter are also going the same speed as you. What would you do to get out of this dangerous situation?

A.: Just wait until the merry-go-round stops and then get out.

Mazel Tov!

Congratulations to all of our friends at East Hall Middle School. Their creativity, determination and hard work has paid off- the school is no longer on the No Child Left Behind "Needs Improvement" list! Click
here to read all about it.

We're not one bit surprised. We've seen first-hand what the wonderful staff like Lisa, Sassy, Kay, Stephanie and Anne can do. They also have dedicated volunteers like Marsha to help make the magic happen. Kudos to all the faculty, staff, volunteers, students and parents!

This week (except on Friday) any EHMS staff member, student or parent of a student can take 25% off of any cash purchase. Just let us know you're part of that amazing school when you check out.

Grits Casserole

My family loves breakfast for dinner. The other night I tried this recipe and was absolutely blown away. It has a wonderful souffle-like texture and the blend of flavors is heavenly. Also, Ingles currently has 2 lbs. of grated cheese for $4.98!

6 c. water

1 1/2 c. grits

2 c. grated cheddar cheese

4 eggs, beaten

1 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. pepper

1 medium onion, chopped

2 c. chopped cooked ham, turkey ham or kielbasa (or just add more veggies)

Bring water to boil, add grits. Lower heat, stir in cheese, eggs, etc. Pour into a 3 quart greased casserole. Bake 1-1 1/2 hours (yes, really) at 350 degrees. This can be made ahead, refrigerated or frozen.
