Happy New Year!
2010 will be here in a few days. If one of your resolutions is to get organized, we'll be glad to help. Just clean out your closet (if you didn't wear it this year, you won't wear it next year) and come on over to N2N. We're doing store credit buying Monday-Thursday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Out with the old, in with the next to new!
This year, January's first Friday falls on New Year's Day. There's an old superstition that holds that whatever you do on the first day of the year, you'll do all year long. So...we'll be open on New Year's Day, hosting our First Friday Half Price Sale! Plus, we're holding the sale over through Saturday the 2nd...it's time to start making room for spring inventory!
First Friday Sale
Storewide Half Price
unless already priced less.
You can use your store credit but the discount won't apply.
My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Gainesville Times. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.
His latest was published on December 19th. Click here to read Arthur's piece on the latest in USB gadgets.
My December 25th column is about the challenges of raising a puppy.

#1 With a Bullet
This went out earlier in the week as a Hot Flash but I'd thought I'd share it with those of you who aren't on the Hot Flash list, too: Click here to go to Amazon.com and register. Use the code AVODGIFT. That gives you a $4.00 credit so you can watch a hot new release for free on your PC or TIVO. It's good until January 3. I think Rachel and I will watch Julie and Julia.
--1 cup brown sugar
--1/4 cup lemon-lime soda (stay with me...)
--2/3 cup vinegar (I used white wine, but think regular white would be fine)
--3 cloves smashed and chopped garlic
--2 T soy sauce
Use a 4 quart crockpot for this recipe.
Plop the chicken into your crockpot. Cover with the brown sugar, pepper, chopped garlic, and soy sauce. Add the vinegar, and pour in the soda. It will bubble!
Cover and cook on low for 6-9 hours, or on high for 4-5. The chicken is done when it is cooked through and has reached desired consistency. The longer you cook it, the more tender it will be.
Serve over white rice with a ladle full of the broth. You can also thicken some of the broth with cornstarch if you'd like to make a sauce.
