New Columns!

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

Arthur's latest was published on May 15. Click here to read "Free apps can make your computer run smarter, better." It's a keeper!

My column, published May 13, is "Lawsuit lottery benefits no one but the lawyers." Click here.

Of all of PBS's fine programming, I think "Nature" is my favorite. Now you can access their website and watch full episodes. Forget that "Law and Order" rerun- click here to see "Why We Love Cats and Dogs" or "Animals Behaving Badly" or "Raptor Force."- amazing photography and insights that make you say "hmmm", all at your fingertips.

Congratulations, Graduates!

Are you a new graduate (high school, college, grad school)? Stop by N2N this week and pick up your graduation gift- 30% off your entire cash purchase. Good through Sunday, May 29. Congratulations!

Kids Eat Free

Margie Sinclair sent us this site: It's a data base of kid's night specials at over 6,000 locations nationwide. It's a good resource to have when planning your vacation travel.

They also have a sister site, outlining vacation destinations that offer a break for families with kids.

Got cookies?

Our Rachel has been named a 2011 Bronfman Youth Fellow which means she'll spend the summer traveling and studying in Israel. To help raise money for all the expenses not covered by the Fellowship, she's holding an on-going bake sale at N2N. You can pick up homemade goodies for a donation. To date, donations have totaled more than $100.00. Thanks so much!

BTW- she can take bulk orders, too, so if you don't have time to cook for that family reunion or church picnic, just call 770-534-9070. Rachel can whip up a few dozen Earth Day Cookies or Mounds Bars for you.

One of her most popular cookies so far has been the Mounds Bar Cookie. She was kind enough to share her recipe:

Whatcha eatin'?

Mounds Bar Cookies

1/2 c. butter
2 c. graham cracker crumbs
1/4 c. sugar
14 oz. pkg. coconut
1 can Eagle Brand milk
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
12 oz. pkg. chocolate chips

Melt butter. Add cracker crumbs and sugar. Mix and press in bottom of 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

Mix coconut, flavorings and condensed milk; spread on crust and bake 10 minutes. Then pour chocolate chips over top and spread as they melt. Chill to set the chocolate, then remove and let soften, then cut in bars.

Wise Words

This is some of the best advice I've ever read- perfect for all the new graduates with the ink still drying on their diplomas:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ~Marianne Williamson

Message from Arthur:

Arthur says there are many forms of malware circulating the Internet. Some remain hidden in your computer, wreaking havoc with your system. Others appear as bogus utilities, warning you of non-existent problems. Often they will even give you a specific number of issues - something not possible if you hadn't run any scans with that utility. Others yet, are random pop-ups that you can't close. These all must be dealt with immediately. If they disappear on their own, they will return. They are not self-healing. If not eradicated, they will get worse, eventually blocking you from logging on to Windows, in many cases.

Call Arthur at 770-540-5100 or email him at if you need to set up an appointment. He guarantees his work, has rapid response times and reasonable rates. You've read his columns in the Times, now let him go to work for you.

That's it for now. Remember-email goes both ways...

If you run across any exceptional bargains or impressive new products, let us know. We'll put the word out!

Have a remarkable week!
