Next to Newsletter- Monday, April 9, 2012

Ah, allergy season is upon us.
Sunday we took a drive up into the mountains.

Arthur and Rachel took glorious pictures while I stood around and sniffled. Now the symptoms have taken hold with a vengeance so this week's newsletter will be short and sweet. Then I'm going to dose myself up with antihistamine and pray for deliverance. Be back when the pollen's gone.

and here's some great news:

You all know about the Coke lady (so named because of her employer.) She brings us gorgeous plus sizes. We've just put out about 100 pieces of her spring/summer wear- 3X and 22W pants, tops, capris- mostly Ralph Lauren. There are size 9.5 and 10 shoes and even some dresses.
Come soon to get the best selection.

We've also gotten in about 75 wonderful Talbot's size L and XL tops (along with some size 3 Chico's tops) and size 12 Talbot's pants and capris. Beautiful!

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

My latest column ran on March 30th. Click here to read "Conclusion jumping, yet one item stands out"

Arthur took the week off from writing his Computer Care column. However, he sends this, exclusive to the Next to Newsletter- some free tools and computing advice that he has not yet written about in any of his columns. You saw it here first. Arthur says:
Freemake is a free, easy and useful tool for changing the format of videos you may have. It has lots of tutorials built-in and will show you how to create You Tube videos, change froman iPad/iPod format to a Windows video, from avi to mpeg or wmv and lots more.

On the web page below, you'll also find a free audio converter. Find it at:

Another good free utility to have is TrackMeNot, a browser add-on that will stop Firefox or Chrome from following you on the Internet with use of many popular search engines. Among other reasons to install it, your spam intake will be reduced. For Firefox go to http://trackmenot.org/

If you still use Internet Explorer, we need to talk. Try one of the others.

Know the difference between an UPGRADE and an UPDATE. The former requires payment. The latter is free and is just a newer version of what you already have.

For example, if you use the free and popular Advanced system Care and see a link to an UPGRADE, they are trying to sell you the paid version.

But if you see a pop-up telling you of an UPDATE, it is OK to download it. That's just a the latest of the free versions, newer than the one you already have installed. It will almost always overwrite the existing version, but may ask your permission first; just agree to it.

Use System Restore. It is built in to every version of Windows. It is Microsoft's "Way-Back Machine" (for those of you who remember Saturday cartoons from way back!). What it does is create a reference point for you to go back to should something go awry with your computer.

Do you want to know how to destroy the data on a CD/DVD? Go to
http://www.wikihow.com/Destroy-a-CD-or-DVD. There are various easy methods listed there.
I am available for tuneups (make your computer faster) and virus & malware
eradication. My rates beat those of the big box stores and my clients are also my friends.
I don't mind friends contacting me with a call or email about computing
issues that may have arisen. Try that with one of the other guys!

Watch for my biweekly column in the Times, the next one on the 14th.
