Some of the pieces are fall/winter and before we send them off to storage on Tuesday, we'll make them available for you to check out- just ask. Plan on stopping in soon- these bargains won't last long!

Current Columns

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Gainesville Times. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

His latest was published on April 3rd. Click here to read Arthur's piece on a free alternative to Windows.

My April 2nd column is about the pervasiveness of urban legends. Click here to go to it.

Just up the road...

The 14th annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival will be an incredible weekend of music and art held in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains on April 16-18, 2010. During that weekend, old time and bluegrass music will fill the Historic Public Square in Dahlonega. There will be on-stage performances by local, regional, and national musicians on Saturday and Sunday, and a juried artist's marketplace features traditional mountain art and crafts. Extensive music workshops, a Sunday morning Gospel Jam, a Saturday night street dance, a live country auction on Friday night, family activities, and food complete the offerings. For more info go to www.bearonthesquare.org.

This is the latest You Tube video to go viral--and with good reason. The dad who filmed it writes: "So my 3 year old. He apparently loves the song Single Ladies by Beyonce. Little did I know how much he loves that song. I was simply making a point that he, in fact, is not a single lady. I thought he would laugh and keep singing...Man was I wrong." Play in the Dirt

Check out the Spring Plant Sale at the North Hall High School greenhouse. It's going on 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-April 16, April 19-21 and 26-30. There are flowering plants, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and broccoli. Prices range from $1.50-$9.00. The school is located at 4885 Mount Vernon Road.

Chances are you’ve heard a lot about eating local, organic or farm-fresh food. There’s a reason for that: Sustainable produce is great for your health, community and sometimes even your wallet. Unlike food that's been shipped across the country, local food is at the peak of its freshness and flavor. Vegetables, fruit or meat shipped from far away lands also often come with transportation costs tacked to your bill.

To help you go local, Woman's Day magazine found three websites that teach you everything, from where to find organic produce to how to join a food co-op. Click here for more info.

The Gainesville Theatre Alliance Discovery Series presents "Little Women," featuring GTA senior Marissa Druzbanski.

Old-fashioned in the best possible way, Little Women makes a good complement to Wicked for those trying to entice a younger audience to the delights of the musical theatre. Louisa May Alcott's classic tale of family solidarity --especially the powerful bond between sisters-- evokes memories of curling up with Alcott's novel to read breathlessly of the adventures in love and destiny for Jo March and her three sisters.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. April 17-19 at the Hosch Theatre in the John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts, 429 Academy St. Admission is free.
The cast includes long-time N2N friend, Sherry Franklin. Break a leg, Sherry!

Embrace Life

From across the pond, this British public service ad for seat belt use is one of the best ever. Click here.

Trivia learned while researching something else

What does it mean when a British friend says "Shall I be Mother?"

This would happen when the family sits down to a pot of tea or a slice of cake and someone needs to pour or cut for everyone. Whoever gets to do the honors (or, rather, honours) is being "Mother". Now, class, try to use this phrase in a sentence this week...

Wise Words

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."
