Latest Columns
My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.
Arthur's latest was published on August 7th. Click here to read his review of Google Chrome.
My August 6th column is about the bittersweetness that accompanies the first day of school. Click here to read it.
When I was writing the column, I pulled out a box of photos-- first day of school pictures, class photos, those sorts of things-- and I found my first grade class picture from Enota, circa 1960.
Want to play "Where's Teressa"? Enter your guess in the comments section and I'll let you know who gets it right. Gotta warn you though, even my husband and daughter picked the wrong girl!
Abbey Road
For all you Beatles fans: 90% of the Beatles recordings were made at Apple Studios. In April 1969, they came together to record their final album as a group and titled it "Abbey Road." This album became their best selling work and featured the now iconic image of the pedestrian crossing outside the studios on the front cover.
There is live streaming video online so you can observe the actual crossing 24/7. You don't have to watch long before a group of tourists tries to recreate the album cover image...which is exactly what I would do if I were there.

Why do we say...
Where do sayings like "get sacked", "kit and caboodle" and "beating around the bush" come from? Click here to read about the origins of those colorful sayings and more.

White List
I've encountered some trouble in getting the weekly newsletter emails delivered to those of you who have Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. Since I send out so many emails, I thinks those ISPs have decided I'm a spammer. Arghhh!!!
There's No Place Like Home!
My friend, Evelyn Asher, currently lives in Asheville, N.C. She owns a house at 5325 Raintree Trail in Oakwood. As of August 31st, it will be available to rent for $700/ month plus utilities or it can be purchased for $139,900.
It's situated on an acre in the Oakwood, West Hall Middle and High School District. It has vaulted ceilings and a gas fireplace in the living room. There's a large eat-in kitchen that leads out to a screened patio. The master bedroom has hardwood floors. There are a total of three bedrooms and 2 updated bathrooms. There's also a deck.
It has a large family room and workroom plus a storage shed. It is convenient to Gainesville State College, Lanier Tech, Lake Lanier Rowing and Kayak Club, Lake Lanier Sailing Club, and Smithgall Botanical Gardens.

I Feel the Earth Move...
One of my friends on Facebook mentioned that she was making an Earthquake Cake. My curiosity was piqued and I did a little research. Turns out Earthquake Cake is a gooey combination of coconuts, pecans and cream cheese in a German chocolate cake. It's like an upside down cake and cheese cake brownie combined. Just call it heaven on a plate. Click here for the recipe.
