Latest Columns

My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

Arthur's latest was published on July 9. Click here to read " It may be time to ditch your old programs."

He took a week off to help care for his mother in New York so there was no July 23rd column. He'll be back in the Times on August 6th.

My latest column was published July 22. Click here to read "Letting go, this time to Israel."

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub

Need advice on getting that mystery stain out of the carpet? What to do about a fridge that smells like last night's salmon casserole? Click here to go to ServiceMaster's super cleaning site. They have answers to all your cleaning questions- even some you never thought to ask!

Whatcha Eatin'?

There are some things that I never think to try to make from scratch- cream of mushroom soup (the kind to add to casseroles), powdered sugar, cat food...some things are just meant to be bought at the store, you know?
That's what I thought when a friend mentioned she was making her own ketchup. What? Really?

Indeed. There's a site that's everything ketchup: the history, more recipes than you can imagine (some without tomatoes!), even a forum for ketchup aficionados.

So if you have juicy red tomatoes ripening on the window sill, click here to get started.

Wise Words
