My husband, Arthur, and I each write twice-a-month columns for The Times here in Gainesville. His deal with computing and technology issues. Mine deal with whatever strikes my fancy.

Arthur's latest was published on April 16. Click here to read "User Account Control a matter of preference."

My column, published April 15, is "Bus line boss should find these undercover jewels" Click here.

Saturday at the library

Come celebrate Dia de Los Ninos/Dia de Los Libros on Saturday, April 30th, at the Hall County Library's Gainesville Branch from 10 AM to 4 PM. Come take pictures with Dora the Explorer (10 AM-12 Noon), listen to world stories with McKenzie Wren (2 PM), make a family story book, and enjoy cultural food and music. Then walk to the square to the Chicken Festival. This program is provided by an Everyone Reads@ Your Library grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Thanks, Dollar General!

From Reader's Digest: Connecting with friends on Facebook or through texting makes it easier for kids to socialize but it also makes it easier for them to be cruel to one another. They don’t have to be big or strong. All they need is a computer or a phone to become a cyberbully. Click here for some guidelines for parents to help their children cope with bullying.

Awesome Sale!

Mark your calendar- the Cleveland-White County Optimist Club is holding a $6.00 Jewelry Sale! It's a bargain cavalcade of necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, purses, even reading glasses.

It's in the Roy Ash community Building, 89 Jarrard St. behind United Community Bank in Cleveland. The dates are April 28 and 29 from 8 AM to 6 PM and Saturday, April 30 from 8 AM to 3 PM.
It's a great time to do Mother's Day and graduation shopping and help a wonderful organization at the same time!

Whatcha eatin' ?

Coconut Macaroons

1 pkg. (14 oz.) or 5 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract

PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Foil-line and grease baking sheets- I recommend using the non-stick foil and then spray with Pam.

COMBINE coconut, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract and almond extract in large bowl. Using wet hands, shape into small balls and then press down sightly on cookie sheet.

BAKE for 10 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned around edges. Immediately remove from baking sheets to wire racks to cool. Store loosely covered at room temperature.

STIR into dough 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate mini morsels. Proceed as above.

Recipe makes 4 dozen cookies.

Message from Arthur:

Arthur says there are many forms of malware circulating the Internet. Some remain hidden in your computer, wreaking havoc with your system. Others appear as bogus utilities, warning you of non-existent problems. Often they will even give you a specific number of issues - something not possible if you hadn't run any scans with that utility. Others yet, are random pop-ups that you can't close. These all must be dealt with immediately. If they disappear on their own, they will return. They are not self-healing. If not eradicated, they will get worse, eventually blocking you from logging on to Windows, in many cases.

Call Arthur at 770-540-5100 or email him at if you need to set up an appointment. He guarantees his work, has rapid response times and reasonable rates. You've read his columns in the Times, now let him go to work for you.

That's it for now. Remember-email goes both ways...
